Der Dickdarm (Colon) ist ca. 1,5 m lang und beginnt mit der Einmündung des Dünndarms in den Blinddarm (Caecum). Das Caecum liegt auf Höhe und unterhalb der Ileocaecalklappe, besitzt ein eigenes Mesenterium (→ Mobilität) mit darin enthaltener A. / V. appendicularis (← A. ileocolica ← A. mesenterica superior) und ist ca. 7 cm lang. Der blind endende Wurmfortsatz (Appendix vermiformis) befindet sich an der dorsomedialen Wand des Caecums, unmittelbar unterhalb der Ileocaecalklappe in der Taenia libera.
