Complications and their countermeasures
Catheter dislocation with intraperitoneal drip and emergence of diffuse peritonitis.
- Careful suturing at the catheter insertion sites to ensure adhesion between the visceral and parietal laminas of the peritoneum.
- Catheter X-ray study post-surgery to verify the precise catheter position.
Catheter obstruction
- All medication should be dissolved in water or administered as liquids. After administering medications or feeding solution it is extremely important to flush the catheter with water.
Ileus
- Ensure that there is no kinking when fixating the intestinal loop to the lateral wall. Also, do not leave large gaps with the possible risk of internal herniation.
