The Kocher maneuver serves to mobilize the duodenum. The structures on the back of the duodenum are displayed and mobilized.
The mobilization of the duodenum according to Kocher is necessary:
- To capture the duodenal, pancreatic, and retroduodenal lymph node groups.
- For easier closure of the duodenal stump or a duodenotomy.
- To facilitate the anastomosis technique in interposition.
- Is a prerequisite for a tension-free gastric interposition.
This process is a surgical step in upper abdominal operations:
- Duodenotomy as standard access to intraduodenal structures
