Inspection and digital rectal examination reveal a gaping anus and significantly reduced sphincter tone. After slow manual sphincter dilation, the Parks retractor is inserted. The prolapse is luxated in front of the anus using Allis clamps. Even after removing the Parks retractor, the prolapse does not spontaneously reposition and remains a few centimeters extra-anal. This confirms the diagnosis of a third-degree prolapse.
