Exstirpation of a solitary parathyroid adenoma

The skin incision is made 2 transverse fingers (2 - 3 cm) above the jugular notch between the muscle bellies of the right and left sternocleidomastoid muscles as a shortened Kocher collar incision. The platysma is divided using diathermy.

 Note: In case of a single parathyroid adenoma with good knowledge of the location, the skin incision can be significantly smaller than, for example, in thyroid resection.

Division of the subcutaneous tissue. Exposure and incision of the linea alba colli. In this process, an anterior jugular vein running in the superficial cervical fascia is divided between clamps and ligated.

Retraction of the straight neck muscles and dissection in the midline onto the trachea below the thyroid isthmus.
