Intimal tears and dissections, vessel perforation
- Cause: usually too aggressive an approach during the manoeuvre using the ring stripper
- Clinical presentation: persistent ischaemia
- mandatory: intraoperative angiography to check the vascular flow path
- Rupture of the pelvic flow path -> prosthetic replacement
- Rupture of the patch in the groin with an artery of too small a calibre -> prosthetic interposition; arteria profunda femoris unexpectedly not suitable for anastomosis -> femoro-popliteal bypass to PI, II or III
- Prophylaxis: perform the ring stripper manoeuvre carefully and with a sensitive touch
