Complications - diagnostic laparoscopy for adhesion zone, lavage cytology, biopsy sampling, second look operation

  1. Intraoperative Complications

    • Bowel injury,
    • Bladder injury
    • Ureteral lesion,
    • Vascular injury and bleeding
    • Conversion to laparotomy, this is necessary in cases of severe bleeding, unexpected findings, extensive adhesions, bowel injury, ureteral lesion
  2. Postoperative complications

    • Wound healing disorder, open wound, rinse, dress.
    • Postoperative ileus, paralytic: conservative ileus therapy, mechanical (adhesion): revision.
    • Infection, antibiotic therapy,
    • Intra-abdominal abscess, necessity of revision or percutaneous drainage.
    • Rebleeding/hematoma formation, revision surgery necessary in most cases.
    • Subcutaneous emphysema, usually resolves on its own.
    • Post-laparoscopic shoulder pain syndrome, pain management
    • Leg/pelvic vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, anticoagulation
