Complications - Interventional exclusion of a type Ia endoleak following bilateral endoluminal repair of an internal iliac artery aneurysm

  1. Intraoperative complications

    • Injury to access vessels with or without acute thrombosis; bleeding complications; later also pseudoaneurysm formation and arteriovenous fistulae
    • Dissection, occlusion of the access vessel, vascular rupture → conversion to open surgery, possibly stent implantation
    • Bleeding complication at the puncture site (5-8%) → mostly nonsurgical; surgical haematoma evacuation with oversewing of the vessel required in <3% of cases
    • Procedural failure → switch to a different procedure (e.g. endoluminal Y-graft)
